Wow! Here, in all it’s glory, lies the latest installation of Jon Kwest’s theme compilation albums, a beast indeed. Jon says “These comps are my way of re-introducing music and artists that were highly influential to me (and in my opinion highly over looked these days) to a new generation.” This MOOMBAHTON VS. NATIVE TONGUES album does just that, refurbishes the classic Native Tongues sound with the newness of Moombahton.

The Native Tongues was a collective of late 1980s and early 1990s hip-hop artists known for their positive-minded, good-natured Afrocentric lyrics, and for pioneering the use of eclectic sampling and later jazz-influenced beats. Its principal members are the Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest. The collective was also closely tied to the Universal Zulu Nation.

There are a slew of flagship members to the Native Tongues; Monie Love, Chi-Ali, Black Sheep (Dres and Mista Lawnge), Queen Latifah, Da Bush Babees, The Beatnuts, Fu-Schnickens (Poc-Fu, Chip-Fu and Moc-Fu) and The Leaders of the New School. Now add to that the new leaders of the new school; Pickster, Jon Kwest, Dj Melo, Cam Jus, Riot Earp, Apt One, Habanero Posse, Nate Metro, Boyfriend, Rampage and Nader.
